Frequently Asked Questions

What size would you recommend for my goats? The large stanchion is for full-size goats and the small stanchion is for dwarf and pygmy goats. To get the best fit measure your goats to determine which size stanchion will work best. The neck height for the head-gate opening is the key measurement. Our small head-gate opening ranges from 13-26 inches above the platform. In comparison our large stanchion has a head-gate opening ranging from 19-32 inches above the platform.

What is the difference between the three different goat stanchion platforms you sell? The goat stanchions differ by the platform material

We offer three options:

  • 5/4 inch treated Decking (Large/Small)
  • Advantech (Large only)
  • Composite decking (Large/Small)

The small goat stand comes in two options: 5/4 treated wood decking and composite decking. (The 5/4 inch treated wood decking material is the same material commonly used to build outdoor decks.) The Advantech (or equivalent) platform is made of ¾ inch thick super-grade particle board, commonly used in the construction industry and has a 50-yr warranty in home building. (This option is only available in our large stanchion.) A single 22” by ¾” piece is used on each platform.

Our newest option is the composite decking platform . This is the same material used to build high end outdoor decks. The composite is a recycled material. It is more durable and easy to clean than treated wood. It costs more but is worth it in the long run.

What materials are your stanchions made of? The legs, platform frame and head-gate are made from treated SPF (Spruce, Pine or Fur). Choose which platform type you prefer from explanation above.

How long does it take to receive my order? We generally ship within 1-2 business days. By shipping via FedEx ground from 65608 you can expect your goat stand to arrive in 3-5 days.

Does the goat stanchion arrive fully assembled? We remove the legs and head-gate and stash them under the platform for shipping. This allows us to ship our large stanchion in a 48x23x7 inch box and our smaller stanchion in a 36x23x7 inch box. Upon receiving the stanchion you simply need to reattach the legs and the head-gate in the pre-drilled and marked locations. All you need is a cordless drill. (We’ll include the right drill bit.) It’ll only take a few minutes to reassemble and directions are included.

How much weight will your goat stanchions hold? Our stanchions are exceptionally well built and solid. They will easily hold 250+ lbs.

How much do the stanchions themselves weigh? Our full-size stanchions weighs between 50 and 65 pounds depending on the platform material. The pygmy stanchion normally weighs between 45 and 55 pounds. Weight will vary some due to the moisture content in the wood.

How much does shipping cost? We ship via FedEx Ground and charge a flat-rate $55 shipping fee.

Which would you recommend for longer lasting platform? The composite decking option should be the longest lasting. It is not supposed to fade, or warp and is easily cleaned. All our platforms though will hold up very well in a wide variety of weather conditions.

Will this stand be good for horned goats? Yes, the head-gate opens fairly wide. We’ve never had a customer have any problem with horned goats.

Would we be able to use this for sheep also? Yes, our stanchions should also work fine for sheep and other small livestock.

Aloha! Do you ship to Hawaii? Possibly… message the live chat and we’ll square away the details.

What size feed tub would fit the small stand? For all our stanchions the opening for the handle of the feed bucket is 3/4 of an inch. Any typical small animal feed bucket will work fine.

How do you keep the goat’s head in there? One side of the head-gate pivots open. The goat puts its head through to feed from the bucket then you close head-gate which pivots and secured with a hook and eye latch.
